Usability Testing

Our usability testing service involves active participation from end users. Typical projects include testing the usability of new websites, e-commerce platforms, or applications. We evaluate aspects such as the intuitiveness and ease of use of the user interface.

Heuristic Evaluation

In heuristic evaluation, usability is evaluated without the user. In projects, a team of 2-5 people goes through the service and evaluates usability compared to Nielsen heuristics, for example. The reports of the team members are compiled together, and the team divides the observations into severity categories and works on development proposals to fix the usability challenges.

Case Study

Turku.fi

The Project

The project involved testing a user account and shopping cart connected to the online services developed by the City of Turku, both of which were still in the prototype stage. The primary goal was to identify potential usability issues early in the planning phase to minimize them. The project focused on assessing the usability of the shopping cart and user account, concentrating on their basic functions. Testing was conducted with a sample of future users across various platforms. We compiled a report for the customer that included the results of the usability testing and development recommendations based on our analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying potential usability issues
  • Testing usability of the shopping cart
  • Conducting usability testing

The Project

Gamu Ry ordered the development and testing of the Digihelppari application from theFIRMA. The project was tested quite extensively during the project with end users ranging from an interactive mockup to a ready-made application. At the beginning of the development, a heuristic evaluation of the application was also carried out, so that the usability challenges could be tested and fixed even before the application went to be tested by the end users. In the heuristic evaluation, a three-person team went through the application to evaluate the usability compared with the Nielsen heuristics. Reports were compiled together, usability severity was prioritized on a scale of 1 to 3, and development proposals were designed to fix usability challenges. The report was reviewed with the application development team, in which case, in addition to the written report, there was also an interactive dialogue with the development team. This ensured that it was clear for application developers to start fixing usability issues.
